150,000 Concorde items to be sold in Global Auction

Travel News Asia 19 February 2004

British Airways is to auction more than 150,000 Concorde items through an online webcast in conjunction with DoveBid Inc.

The four-day event run by DoveBid will take place between Wednesday 14 and Saturday 17 April, 2004 at Stoneleigh Park near Coventry, England with a simultaneous internet webcast to worldwide bidders.

The online event will build on the success of a Concorde auction held in December 2003 which raised money for children’s charity Get Kids Going.

Items for sale in the April auction will include a nose-cone, cockpit instruments, on-board computers, seats, on-board kitchen equipment, engines and their components, lights, sensors, crockery and cutlery.

Martin George, British Airways’ marketing director, said: “We are thrilled to be giving Concorde enthusiasts a second chance to buy Concorde memorabilia. We were encouraged to hold another auction by the vast number of letters and phone calls British Airways received from the public asking if we would be selling more items. The technology that DoveBid uses will also cater for people bidding from overseas who weren’t able to come to the last auction in London.”

Ross Dove, chairman and chief executive officer of DoveBid, said: “Dovebid is pleased to conduct this monumental webcast auction of Concorde memorabilia for British Airways. Thousands of bidders from around the world will be able to purchase a piece of Concorde history by competing in a live auction broadcast in real time over the internet.”
