Dragonair beats Daily Passenger Record

Travel News Asia 18 October 2004

More than 18,000 people have flown with Dragonair in a single day for the first time. The new daily passenger record of 18,182 was set yesterday. The previous high, of 17,356, was recorded on September 24.

“This is a great achievement,” said Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui, “the first time in Dragonair’s history that we have flown more than 18,000 people in one day. The high number was underpinned by a mix of robust business and leisure travel.

“While traffic from Hong Kong to the China Mainland slowed over the ‘Golden Week’ holiday, the remainder of October is a traditionally busy time for conferences and exhibitions, resulting in more business traffic, while the cooler weather makes it one of the best times of the year to visit the cultural and scenic sights of the Mainland.”

Dragonair has been operating its most extensive summer schedule this year, providing more flights to more destinations than ever before.

Mr. Hui added: “This year we have seen a string of new daily and monthly passenger records as the economy has bounced back. Given this, we anticipate the latest record could be broken in the near future.”
