General Manager appointed at new Abu Dhabi resort

Travel News Asia 11 October 2004

Manoj Kanwal has been appointed as general manager of the Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna, heading the team overseeing the launch this autumn of the first five-star resort on the west coast of Abu Dhabi.

Formerly general manager at The National Corporation for Tourism & Hotels' Mafraq Hotel, Kanwal has been with the corporation for six years, prior to which he spent several years with the Rotana group in the UAE, involved in various departments including food and beverage and marketing.

Indian born, with a diploma from the Institute of Hotel Management in Delhi, Kanwal also gained an MBA from Bradford University in the UK, as well as completing the General Manager’s Program at the Hotel School at Cornell University.

After training at the Hyatt Regency in Delhi, his first posting was at the Maurya Sheraton in the Indian capital.

Kanwal is keen to establish the Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna as one of the UAE’s leading resorts, and is confident that it will meet all expectations and more, “Response from the European travel trade has been excellent and we already have confirmed allocations from several tour operators for this winter,” he said.

“However, we also expect to achieve a high level of local business – we are far enough away that people coming to Jebel Dhanna for the weekend or short break can experience something completely different and go home feeling totally relaxed.”

With 109 rooms and suites, the Danat Resort Jebel Dhanna offers exceptional resort facilities including a 800 metres private beach, a full range of beach and water sports, two floodlit tennis courts, a par-36 nine hole sand golf course and driving range, children’s club, extensive banqueting and meeting rooms facilities, the Body and Soul Health Club, Pan-Arabian and bistro restaurants and a C-View café, and six waterfront villas.

Fishing, diving and desert safaris are available as well as exclusive tours of the Sir Bani Yas wildlife reserve island, located just 9km off the coast.
