Melia Hanoi opens City's second largest ballroom

Travel News Asia 19 February 2003

The Meli Hanoi is currently putting the finishing touches to its brand-new second grand ballroom, the Thang Long  Ballroom. The ballroom is launched in response to growing demand for meeting space, and is scheduled to open on March 1st, 2003.

As the second largest ballroom in Hanoi, the 600-square metre Thang Long Ballroom can accommodate 800 persons in a meeting setting and 500 persons for banquets. It is designed to serve both business and social functions, and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, including a large  250-inch LCD screen of 4100 ANSI-MultiPlex. An adjoining foyer and pre-function area of 280 square metres provides an ideal setting for pre-dinner cocktails, coffee breaks or exhibitions. With a generous ceiling  height of 5.8 metres, the Thang Long Ballroom also features an adjoining open-air terrace, and overlooks a breathtaking view of the city.

The Thang Long Ballroom will complement the hotel's existing meeting and banquet facilities, which include a 1,007-square metre Grand Ballroom,  seven function rooms and two boardrooms, offering a total meeting capacity for more than 2,000 persons at any one time. This range of superior meeting venues is supported by a host of auxiliary facilities, including a full-service  business centre, dedicated ballroom elevators, a multi-storey car park for 250 vehicles and a separate halal kitchen.

During the first month of opening, Meli Hanoi expects the Thang Long Ballroom to be operated in full capacity. Its first significant event will be Asia  Society's 13th Asian Corporate Conference, which will be attended by high-ranking international figures including Ambassadors, Ministers and Presidents, as well as CEOs of top US, European and Asian corporations.

Mr Alfonso Romero, General Manager of Meli Hanoi, comments: "Since the hotel opened in 1999, it has been among the most successful and popular venues for MICE activities, particularly large-scale ministerial and diplomatic-level events. With facilities designed to cater to groups of  between 100 and 1,000 delegates, we provide organizers with the versatility and flexibility essential in successful event planning. The opening of the new ballroom puts Meli Hanoi in a unique position to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of event organizers, as well as contributing to the development of Hanoi as a MICE city."
