TG/MAI Sign Joint Service Code Share Agreement

Today, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited signed a Joint Service Code Share Agreement with Myanmar Airways International (MAI), increasing flight frequencies between Bangkok and Yangon. Presiding over the signing ceremony were Mr. Kanok Abhiradee, THAIs President and Mr. U Maung Maung Ohn, MAIs Chairman.

The contract, which will take effect from 1st February this year, was signed between Mr.Tasnai Sudasna, THAIs Executive Vice President, Commercial and Mr. Gerard de Vaz, MAIs Managing Director. Among those honored guests were H.E. Excellency Mr. U Myo Myint, Myanmar Ambassador to Thailand and Colonel Ko Ko Maung, Military Attache to The Myanmar Embassy in Thailand.

Starting 1st February 2003, the code share arrangements between THAI and MAI will benefit passengers by allowing each partner to offer 23 frequencies per week on the route Bangkok-Yangon. In addition, the cooperation between the two carriers will help promote ASEAN as single tourist destination as was recently agreed among Member States of ASEAN, said Mr. Kanok Abhiradee.

Mr. U Maung Maung Ohn, Myanmar Airways Internationals Chairman, said, As the successful conclusion of various discussions over the last two years, our two airlines are today signing a Joint Service Code Share Agreement. It is our sincere hope that with the implementation of this agreement, the travelling public will enjoy more convenience, the relationship between our two countries will improve, our respective airlines will enjoy better success, and more opportunities for cooperation between us will arise in future."

Currently, THAI operates twice daily flights to Yangon, utilising Airbus 300-600 aircraft. MAI operates daily flights to Bangkok, utilising B737-300 aircraft.
