Hong Kong to Target Domestic Tourism; Reports
April Visitor Arrivals
|
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has reported a
year-on-year drop in visitor arrivals of almost 100%.
In April
2020, Hong Kong welcomed about 4,100 visitor arrivals, representing a daily average of about 136
people.
The number of arrivals remained extremely
low mainly because of the stringent COVID19 immigration control and quarantine
measures implemented by the government of Hong Kong and most
countries and regions around the world.
As with most other countries, Hong Kong will first
look to its domestic market to try and revive tourism.
The HKTB
will launch a series of initiatives designed to stimulate
spending by encouraging
locals to rediscover the many different neighbourhoods, islands and
communities that make Hong Kong one of the most interesting
and diverse cities in the world.
Regional promotions will only be able to resume
once the myriad of different travel restrictions are lifted and
airlines recommence services.
