Australias Mantra Group Now Accepting Job Applications by Video

Australias Mantra Group has started accepting job applications by video as an option for jobseekers applying for guest-facing roles through its online recruitment platform.

The first Mantra Group property to utilise video in their recruitment process is the new Peppers Kings Square Hotel in Perth (opening in October 2016).

Jobseekers applying for Guest Service Agent roles at the new hotel now have the opportunity to provide a video cover letter as part of their job application. Applicants are encouraged to create a 60-second video introducing themselves to the recruitment team and answering a couple of questions.

Were not looking for production quality. We're trying to get to know the applicant on a deeper level so we can more easily identify candidates who embody our company values, said Mantra Group Executive Director Human Resources, Cherie McGill. We are very excited about this new recruitment tool as it gives our team a greater personal understanding of applicants.

Cherie gives these tips to creating a standout video application:

Short and Simple: Just like a traditional cover letter, a video cover letter should be clear, concise and grab the attention of the recruiter. Its an opportunity to add a new dimension to a resume, and the ability to highlight the applicants personality and energy.

Engage the Audience: Mantra Group is looking for team members who are able to engage with their guests and create a unique service experience. Through video, engage the hiring manager to ensure youre at the top of their interview list.

Choose Your Message: Similar to an interview or phone conversation, ensure you use words and phrases found in the job description and your resume to highlight why youre a good fit for Mantra Group.

Dont Over Think It: Dont spend hours attempting for the perfect video. The recruiter simply wants to hear about you and what you can bring to the Mantra Group team.

Find Your Hook and Close It: Just as you would in a traditional cover letter, you need to identify your hook your one unique selling point that will grab the recruiting teams attention. Also, dont forget to conclude the video with a simple statement such as thank you for your time but also make sure your individuality shines through.

Both iPhone and Android phone video files are supported, along with webcam on a PC or laptop. Video cover letters should be uploaded to a private YouTube or Vimeo account so applicants are in control of their personal information. The private URL link can then be transferred into the relevant field in their application.
