Learn How to DJ Like a Pro at Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort

The DJ Dispensary will host a DJ Retreat at the Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort 24-26 July 2015.

Founder and DJ, Matty Wainwright, will be dishing out the 101s on ‘how to be a DJ’ through the DJ Retreat which are are tailored to give guests an up close and personal one-on-one training with his world class DJ Tutors.

Open to both residents and hotel guests, the 3-day DJ Retreat is priced at US$1750 nett and includes a three-night stay for two in a Deluxe Room with daily breakfast and airport pick-up, or US$2500 for a Suite which includes a three-night stay for two in an Ocean View/ Ocean Front Suite with daily breakfast, a bottle of Sailor Jerry at the closing party and return airport transfers.

The DJ Retreat includes a twice daily group and one-on-one session with a DJD Tutor, your own ‘live’ DJ set at the closing party, a ‘live’ stream of your set for your family and friends back home and a DJD USB containing the recording from your live set and photos from your retreat.

The DJ Dispensary syllable includes equipment familiarization, beat matching, cueing, beat structure and pitch control, track structures and more.

A brief history lesson in the form of a movie night showing the independent music documentary ‘Maestro’ (which explores the history, roots and spirit of New York’s House Music scene from disco to the present day) will also be part of the retreat.

“The DJ Dispensary aims to give its participants a clear understanding of what it takes to stand in a DJ booth and present a personal musical account of yourself with a strong emphasis on reading the crowd and building a set,” said Matty. “Bali being our home, working with Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort was a natural and seamless partnership that we’re very excited about. Both brands are in sync and we’ve created a bespoke retreat exclusively for guests staying in the resort. At Sheraton Bali Kuta Resort, we will debut our first ever History of the DJ exhibition showcasing equipment, photographs and text from the 1970s through to present day. We have also partnered with world renowned and go-to brand for DJs, Pioneer to showcase an exhibition on the evolution of the CDJ and an on-site store.”

Spinning in the UK since 1998, Matty recently appeared as DJ Mentor for the Asia-wide MTV: Colab series and has held residencies in Subsix, the world’s first underwater music club at Niyama by Per Aquum in the Maldives, Skylite in Abu Dhabi and has participated in festivals like Reading & Leeds, Stella Artois After Dark, both the Singapore and Abu Dhabi F1 and was Music Director for Nicole Farhi at London Fashion Week.

During his career, Matty has played alongside class acts such as Jose Padilla, Breakbot, Norman Jay, Bottin, David Holmes, Goldroom and more. Matty is bound to the Hundred Schools of Thought in the DJ world, stirring up the melting pot of old and new, playing anything from House, Disco, Rare Grooves and Boogie to Balearic, Broken Beats and AOR.

Alongside Matty at Sheraton Kuta Bali Resort will be DJ Tutor Paul T a former resident at British clubbing institution, Shindig, recognised as one of the longest running club nights in the UK and in 2012 celebrated 20 years of house music.
