Rail Europe is now distributing tickets for the Gornergrat Railway.

The Gornergrat is a must-see excursion for those wishing to discover the dazzling beauty of the Alps. It’s sunny viewing platform, accessible all year round, makes the Gornergrat ridge a top destination.

Surrounded by 29 peaks rising to above 4000m and by Switzerland’s greatest mountain and second longest glacier in the Alps, it offers a spectacular mountain panorama second to none.

In addition the Matterhorn Railway, the peak that inspired the world famous Toblerone chocolate, renders it so close you can almost touch it.

Departing from Zermatt, the popular holiday resort, Europe‘s highest open-air cog railway has travelled up onto the Gornergrat, at 3,089 metres above sea level since 1898.

It today departs every 24 min. Each of the 9,339 metres travelled is an experience in itself and every second of the 33 minutes of travel time an unforgettable pleasure.

29 four-thousand metre peaks – from the Matterhorn through to the Monte Rosa – form a guard of honour. What‘s more, the magnificent vistas from the viewing platform, which remains accessible throughout the year, are all included in the ticket price.
