Hotel Madera Hong Kong recently passed the TUV Rheinland Eco-Hotel certification process.

Ms Florence Ng, Head of Madera Hospitality Management said, "We are pleased to become the first TUV Rheinland-Certified Eco-Hotel in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland in recognition of our concerted efforts to protect the environment."

TUV Rheinland conducted a rigorous audit of Hotel Madera Hong Kong, including a thorough site inspection, documentation review, interviews with staff and management, and implementation of an action plan.

TUV Rheinland Eco-Hotel certification is an integrated certification programme tailored to the specific needs of the hotel and tourism industry. It is based on international standards such as ISO 14001, in addition to those covering energy savings, occupational health and safety, food safety and corporate social responsibility, and follows the concept of the 3Rs (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle). The certification team also examines ways of reducing costs and gaining market leverage.

Mr Raymond Chan, COO of TUV Rheinland Hong Kong, said, "Hotel Madera Hong Kong operates in line with excellent performance standards and implements environmentally sustainable business practices, a sign of its commitment to various green programmes. As a high-consumption industry, it is inevitable that the hotel and tourism sector would become caught up in the trend towards reduced carbon emissions and environmental protection."
