Smiths Detections HI-SCAN 10080 XCT has been installed at Bremens airport, the first fully operational deployment.

The advanced Explosives Detection System (EDS), which uses X-ray imaging and CT (Computed Tomography), allows the authorities to upgrade checked baggage screening at the airports Terminal 3 to the highest ECAC (European Civil Aviation Conference) EDS Standard 3 requirements for the first time.

Hans Zirwes, Vice President of International Sales at Smiths Detection, said, The HI-SCAN 10080 XCT is ideally suited for the installation at all airports requiring high baggage throughput while lowering operational costs. Standard 3 requirements will be mandatory for new EDS equipment at EU airports from September 2014 onwards.

The XCT, which provides a unique imaging solution based on Smiths Detections dual-view, dual-energy, X-ray technology and CT from Analogic Corporation, is one of the fastest, largest tunnel-sized checked baggage screening systems that is EU Standard 3 certified.

With a belt speed of 0.5 meters per second, the HI-SCAN 10080 XCT can screen up to 1800 bags per hour, including objects of up to 100 x 80 cm.
