InfoGate Information Systems, the Munich Airport subsidiary responsible for developing and marketing InfoGate, has launched a pilot project outside the airport.

The project is taking place in two malls in Germany, Limbecker Platz in Essen and Alstertal in Hamburg, where shoppers can now use interactive InfoGate systems to access a wide range of useful information.

Munich Airport put InfoGate into operation at the airport in February 2011. Now, at 12 InfoGate counters located in both terminals, passengers and meeters/greeters are linked within seconds via live videoconference with a member of the airport information team who can answer most questions immediately. During the conversation, both sides see each other as life-size screen images in real time.

In addition to that version with personal customer communication, another interactive system is available at 27 locations across the entire airport campus. There, users find what they need to know via touchscreen. For example, they can check for the shortest route to the departure gate and find out how long it will take to get there. This system also offers information on the full range of services available at the airport.

At the new InfoGate locations in the two German malls, customers will have access to the counter version. Shoppers looking for information on products, departure times of buses and trains or the shortest route to a desired location will be linked live to an ECE staff member in Essen.
