General managers of Bali Hotels Association’s 112 member hotels association gathered at the AYANA Resort & Spa last week to attend an internal workshop on incident management and suspicious items detection and behaviour.

“Usually we conduct workshops for the hotels security and training managers but security and safety is also very much a management issue that needs to be fully understood and enforced by the GM’s,” said Alexander Kesper, the organizations Security and Safety Executive.

The workshop focused on incident management and the leadership role of general managers in severe crisis situations like bombings, fires or earthquakes.

“Leadership is a key issue during the direct aftermath of any crisis before professional help arrives,” said Kesper. “If the first 30 to 60 minutes are managed well a lot of pain and suffering can be avoided.”

The workshop ended with a presentation on suspicious items handling and suspicious behaviour detection and reporting.

The workshop is part of an ongoing effort of BHA to enhance the security and safety situation on the island. BHA is also a regular contributor to the ASEAN Tourism Security and Safety Resource Centre.
