Malaysia Airlines today became a full member of the oneworld
airline alliance.
Malaysia Airlines substantially expands the
oneworld network in South East Asia, where it strengthens the
alliance’s connectivity between many key business cities in Asia
and other parts of the world, benefitting customers with an
expanded global network and increased competition.
Malaysia Airlines’ network is covered by
oneworld’s extensive range of alliance fares and sales
products, including the new Visit Malaysia pass, which offers
foreign visitors discounted fares throughout the airline’s
domestic network in conjunction with a flight to Malaysia with
any oneworld carrier.
Malaysia Airlines’ addition expands oneworld’s
global coverage to 842 destinations in 156 countries, served by
some 9,000 departures a day operated by a combined fleet of some
2,500 aircraft, carrying nearly 340 million passengers a year,
with annual revenues of US$ 110 billion.
“Malaysia Airlines, like Finnair, is a very
established and respected airline with a great history of quality,
and they’re joining oneworld for the same reason we did,” said
Finnair CEO, Mika Vehviläinen. “When we pull together and pool our
considerable talents and resources, we all become stronger and
able to deliver more services, benefits and value to our customers
than we could by going it alone. I’m very pleased to extend a warm
welcome to our friends and colleagues from Malaysia Airlines.”
The 125 million members of the established
oneworld airlines’ frequent flyer programs, can now earn and redeem awards and tier
status points and receive all other oneworld benefits on Malaysia
Airlines.
Additionally, to celebrate the addition of the new
recruit, members of oneworld loyalty
programs will receive double the normal mileage awards when flying
on Malaysia Airlines between 15 February and 15 April 2013, on tickets
bought from today to 15 April 2013.
