Charlie Zha Joins Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai as Hotel Manager

Charlie Zha has been appointed as Hotel Manager of The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai.

Shanghainese Charlie Zha brings home an impressive career portfolio and he is no stranger to The Ritz-Carlton family. He started his career in Geneva, Switzerland as a trainee for Moevenpick Restaurant Fusterie in 1994. While continuing his study, he moved to the US and joined The Ritz-Carlton family for the first time in 1996 as Banquet Server.

With his ambition to become one of the most successful Asian hoteliers, he moved his career up several positions including Management Trainee, Lobby Lounge Manager and Stewarding Manager at The Ritz-Carlton Palm Beach, Florida from 1999. In 2002 he was transferred with a promotion to The Ritz-Carlton Marina Del Ray in California as Banquet Director and Assistant Director of Food and Beverage, he took similar position in 2005 at The Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort, Florida before his next promotion as Executive Assistant Manager of Food & Beverage for The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, Florida in 2007.

In 2010 he received his new leadership appointment as Director of Hotel Operations and successfully held the position for two years until he decided to bring home his wealth of knowledge and experience to his homeland, Shanghai - China.

Educated in both Switzerland and USA, Mr. Zha left his hometown in 1994 to chase his dream and to study in Institute Hotelier “Cesar Ritz” in Switzerland; after receiving his Swiss Diploma, he continued his study in The Swiss Hospitality Institute “Cesar Ritz” in Connecticut USA and received his Associate Degree and certification in Fine Dining Service with distinction in 1996.

Mr. Zha also has a Bachelor Degree of Science in Hotel Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He speaks not only English, Mandarin and Shanghainese but also French and Japanese.
