Kosmopolito Hotels International has presented
HK$40,000 to the Asian Youth Orchestra (AYO).
The scholarship was presented to two young
musicians - Chen Xun (Flute, China) and Michele Khor (Violin,
Malaysia) who are part of the 104-member AYO team.
“Music brings people together regardless of
their race and creed; and we are proud to be associated with AYO;
and to play our part in ensuring that young people are given the
opportunity to pursue their passion for music. Our sponsorship for Xun Chen and Michele Khor will be used to fund their tuition and
other expenses throughout the three week Rehearsal Camp,” said Winnie Chiu, President and Executive Director of
Kosmopolito Hotels International who is also the youngest member of the board of governors of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Society
Limited, The Friends of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the Hong Kong
United Youth Association Limited (HKUYA), The Y.Elites Group and
The Chinese General Chamber of Commerce.
“KHI has
always been active in supporting causes that are geared towards
the betterment of the society and in supporting the younger
generation to better equipped themselves either through higher
learning or in this instance acquiring a specific skill,”
Winnie added.
Asian Youth Orchestra
The
Asian Youth Orchestra is an orchestral summer program that
annually brings together 100 finest pre-professional musicians
from 17 to 27 years old, in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan,
Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and
Vietnam.
Chosen through highly competitive
auditions held throughout the region, they are
together for six weeks each summer, initially for a three week
Rehearsal Camp, then to perform on tour for three weeks with major
international solo artists and conductors.
This year’s tour will
include 13 concerts in Hong Kong, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai,
Xi’an, Taipei, Gunma, Sendai and Tokyo.
A staggering 20,000
musicians, ranging in age from 17 to 27, have auditioned for AYO.
Those selected for the full scholarship program study with an
exceptional artist-faculty of principal players from the
Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Atlanta, National, San Francisco and
Pittsburgh symphony orchestras, Brussels' Monnaie Opera, the
Triple Helix Trio, and the Boston and Peabody conservatories.
