Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Friday, 9 December 2011

STA Travel has teamed up with Sustainable Travel International (STI) in a commitment to “green” its work place by measuring the total operations-based carbon footprint, driving recycling and clean energy strategies across all parts of its business and choosing to work with suppliers with genuine sustainability goals in their business.

STA Travel aims to become STEP (Sustainable Tourism Eco-certified Program) accredited by 2015. STI’s STEP represents the gold standard for companies striving to be environmentally innovative, socially responsible and is endorsed by the United Nations’ Global Sustainable Tourism Council.

Peter Liney, CEO STA Travel, said, “Already a market leader in student travel, STA Travel also wants to be recognised as the market leader for the sustainable way it manages its business, trips and tours. In making this commitment will believe we will generate real business benefits from increased efficiency and cost savings as well as building increased customer loyalty and employee engagement. By differentiating ourselves from a sustainability perspective we are demonstrating market leadership in a way which is totally aligned with the concerns of our customers and employees.”
