Escape to X2 Samui Villas By Design

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Monday, 7 February 2011

Samui has passed through several stages in its development since backpackers first discovered the island a generation ago, and with the latest trend towards pool villa resorts Samui is now firmly aiming for the luxury end of the tourism market.

Typically, this style of resort has a small number of accommodation units that are of high quality, offer space, seclusion, and often a private pool. They are therefore well placed for honeymooners and couples after a little privacy, families, and even for high-level corporate meetings and training events, when a company might reserve several units.

One of the latest pool villa resorts to open on Samui is X2 Samui Villas By Design, which comes under the Centara Boutique Collection and is located at Hua Tanon Beach, a quiet area on the southeast side of the island which is best known for its fishing village and fleet of picturesque fishing boats.

X2 has just 27 villas, each with their own private pool or garden areas, set in five acres of mature gardens with direct access to the beach.

“We are designed very much for the independent-minded traveller, the kind of person who wants a holiday in five-star surroundings that are distinctive and different to the kind of experience given by a large resort,” said X2’s Resort Manager, Mr. Dechanont Wangthong.  “The villa design, the privacy, the large gardens and the beach on the doorstep is how a lot of people would like to live, given the opportunity ... Here they can be themselves, rather than just be a room number.”

The entry-level Garden Villas have an area of 85sqm, making them suitable for a couple of adults or a small family. The majority of the units are however the Deluxe Pool Villas, with 162sqm of area and each featuring their own pool. The largest accommodation available is the Royal Villa with an area of 230sqm that includes two king-bed rooms and a living room.

Amenities for all the villas include flat-screen TV with international satellite programmes, iApple TV, radio and in-house music, DVD player, mini-bar and refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, wireless high-speed internet access, and IDD line telephone.

The resort has its own restaurant on the beach that serves international, European,Thai and Asian cuisines, along with a wide selection of beers, wines and cocktails.

“Many guests like to dine in their own villa, and this is available until midnight, with a chef and staff on hand to cater for romantic dinners and private parties,” Mr. Wangthong said.

X2 has a full-time guest relations officer who can arrange activities such as kayaking, catamaran sailing, boating, fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving and private leisure boats. Mountain biking, trekking, golf, and car and motorbike rental can also be arranged.

The resort also has a dedicated function room that can accommodate up to 20 persons for meetings, private receptions and seminars.  While the poolside area can hold up to 150 guests for cocktails and 100 for dinner. The beach area can hold 250 for cocktails and 200 for dinner.
