AirAsia X has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with Chengdu Tourism.
The signing of the MoU
underlines an estimated cash investment of over RM 1 million (RMB
2 million) which includes marketing efforts to further promote
Chengdu as a tourist destination.
The partnership will
include numerous joint marketing efforts and advertising campaigns
and an establishment of a Chengdu Tourism Center in Malaysia in
which AirAsia X has the privilege of being the only airline
promoted.
Azran Osman-Rani, CEO of AirAsia X said, “We are
always going full force in promoting all 16 routes which AirAsia X
flies to and this collaboration is essential as China is a
commercial hub and a country that has a population of over 1.3
billion people. Travelers around the world are now more aware of
the other tourist destinations in China apart from Shanghai and
Beijing and Chengdu is one strong potential. Our flight into
Chengdu from Kuala Lumpur has proven popular ever since we started
operations in October 2009. We have seen a significant jump in
passenger load with over *84% traffic both inbound and outbound
for the Kuala Lumpur - Chengdu route. We are positive that this
partnership with Chengdu Tourism will help give the extra push to
further increase tourist numbers into Chengdu.”
Chengdu is the capital of
Sichuan Province, which is known as the "Heavenly State" (Tian Fu
Zhi Guo). Being the natural habitat of giant pandas, Chengdu
is located in the west of Sichuan Basin and in the center of
Chengdu Plain with a population of over 11 million.
Popular
attractions include the Chengdu Panda Breeding and Research
Centre, the world’s only giant panda breeding and research base,
the famous Wuhao temple, or enjoy traditional tea at Renmin Park
and experience the Chengdu tea culture.
