American Airlines has filed an application with the U.S. Department of Transportation for the right to fly 10 additional U.S. – Brazil weekly frequencies that it will use to add service from its Miami hub.

The airline plans to increase its current service from Miami to Brasilia and Belo Horizonte, and to launch new service from Miami to Manaus.

"If we are granted the use of these frequencies, we could begin flying as early as this coming December," said Will Ris, American's Senior Vice President – Government Affairs. "From Miami International Airport, we offer more than 380 weekly flights to more than 30 cities throughout Latin America and Mexico. Our proposed new service will give our customers even more travel options to Brazil, Latin America's largest economy."

American proposes to use three frequencies to increase Miami – Brasilia service from four per week to daily using 182-seat Boeing 757-200 aircraft beginning 15 December 2011, three frequencies to increase Miami – Belo Horizonte service from four times per week to daily using 225-seat Boeing 767-300ER aircraft beginning 15 December 2011 and four frequencies to inaugurate Miami – Manaus service using 160-seat Boeing 737-800 aircraft beginning 14 June 2012.
