Luxury train operator Orient-Express has appointed hospitality industry marketing specialist Marcos Pires as Director of Sales & Marketing.

Based in the Singapore Eastern & Oriental Express regional Sales & Marketing office, Pires will be responsible for developing and consolidating business in Asia, focusing primarily on the Eastern & Oriental Express luxury train and the Road to Mandalay river cruiser.

His role also includes the company’s historic and exclusive train and cruise journeys in the UK and Europe, including the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. Another of his main focuses will be to develop digital marketing and customer relationship management in the region.

“I’m privileged to join such an iconic, bespoke brand with enormous global potential,” said the Portuguese-Brazilian, who joins Orient-Express Trains & Cruises after successfully launching the luxury Paresa Resort in Phuket.

Pires began his hospitality career in 1995 at the deluxe Hotel Prince de Galles, Paris, one of Sheraton's first Luxury Collection properties. He was then transferred to the Middle East to the Sheraton Jeddah Hotel & Villas in Saudi Arabia and went on to do international marketing for Hotel Concorde La Fayette in Paris.

He came to Asia in 2001, to internationally market The Peninsula Palace Hotel Beijing, and has remained in the region ever since. During his time in Asia, Pires has strategically positioned The Park Lane Hotel Jakarta as a leading corporate 5-star address, marketed exclusive Bali properties for luxury hotel and resort group GHM Hotels (General Hotel Management) and helped launch Swire Hotels, a new hospitality brand founded by Hong Kong’s Swire Group, with the opening of its flagship hotel The Opposite House Beijing.

Aged 39, he is fluent in English, French and Portuguese, with conversational Spanish and Italian.
