LAN is to add a third daily direct flight
between Santiago, Chile, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to meet peak
season travel demand in the new year. The new seasonal flight will
operate from 1 January until 1 May 2011.
“Demand continues to grow for travel within
South America, and we’re moving quickly to meet that demand by
adding more flights when and where they are needed,” said Rodrigo
Contreras, General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia for LAN
Airlines.
LAN flight LA 772 will depart Santiago at 12:55,
arriving in Rio at 18:05, providing just under one-hour connecting
time for passengers arriving from Australia and New Zealand on
flight LA 800.
The return flight, LA 773, departs Rio at 18:55
and arrives in Santiago at 22:35.
From 5 May 2011, the seasonal Rio service,
LA 772, will continue to operate three times per week, on Fridays,
Saturdays and Sundays until further notice.
The new direct Rio services follow the recent
commencement of LAN flights to the fascinating Galapagos Islands
from Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador.
From January, LAN will start services from Lima,
Peru, to both Iguazu and the Chilean territory of Easter Island.
As part of its intra-South America expansion,
the LAN group has up to 90 new Airbus A320 family aircraft on
order. And in 2011, the airline plans to introduce the first 11 of
up to 32
Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft for international
operations.
From Australia, LAN offers daily Airbus A340-300
flights to Santiago, Chile, via Auckland, New Zealand, with onward
connections to destinations throughout South America.
