Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Friday, 23 July 2010

Tiger Airways is to launch flights to Taipei and increase frequencies to 4 other destinations. With these additions, Tiger Airways’ services to Greater China will increase from 44 to 68 flights per week.

Taipei is Tiger’s 6th destination in Greater China, after Guangzhou, Haikou, Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen. The airline will begin flying between Singapore and Taipei daily starting 11 January 2011.

Tickets for travel until 26 March 2011 are on sale now from Sin$80 / NT$1,900 plus taxes.

From October 2010, Tiger Airways will also operate additional flights to Guangzhou (from 7 to 14), Hong Kong (from 14 to 21), Macau (from 11 to 12) and Shenzhen (from 5 to 7).

Rosalynn Tay, Managing Director of Tiger Airways Singapore, said “We are expanding our pawprints in Greater China to meet the growing demand for our low, low fares. Our existing routes have been very well received by both business and leisure travellers, and Singapore has also been attracting more tourists after the opening of both Integrated Resorts. Increasing frequencies mean greater choice of timings to suit each traveller’s needs. Consumers will also benefit when other airlines are pressured to reduce their fares in an attempt to compete with Tiger.

“We have chosen Taipei as our next destination after many customers voted it as their favourite. Today, we begin the Tiger low-fare revolution on this highly popular route. With the greatest value at the lowest fares, we will drive down market prices for consumers, just as we have done for other destinations including Hong Kong.

“This expansion will be supported by our fleet increase from 10 to 14 by December 2010. We look forward to announcing more services that our increased capacity enables,” added Rosalynn Tay.
