Carlson Hotels has promoted Mika Koponen to vice
president of Technical Services for Asia Pacific. Based at the
regional headquarters in Singapore, Koponen assumes this new
leadership role after almost two years as senior director of
Technical Services for Carlson Hotels in Asia Pacific.
Koponen joined Carlson Hotels from The Rezidor Hotel Group
where he was the head of Technical Development for Russia and the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The Rezidor Hotel group
is Carlson’s major partner in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Carlson is also the largest shareholder in Rezidor.
At Rezidor for 15 years, Koponen’s achievements include
establishing the group’s technical brand standards, as well as
designing and constructing the first Park Inn® hotel prototype in
Nice, France. A bright, bold and fresh mid market brand, Park Inn
was subsequently rolled out in Europe, Russia and CIS with great
success.
With an aggressive pipeline of more than
70 properties or over 11,000 rooms under development in Asia
Pacific, Koponen is responsible for the development and
implementation of Carlson’s design brand standards for new hotel
projects by providing comprehensive technical support to hotel
owners and their design project teams.
“Mika has
worked on hotel projects in some 35 countries and has made
significant contribution to our growth efforts here in Asia
Pacific. I’m confident his wealth of experience will help further
develop our business as we continue to strengthen our portfolio
across the region,” said Jean-Marc Busato, managing director –
Asia Pacific, Carlson Hotels Worldwide.
Carlson
Hotels Worldwide has plans to more than double its Asia Pacific
presence by 2012 focusing on four key markets – India, China,
Thailand and the South Pacific.
