Cary Michael Gray has been appointed general
manager of the W Taipei. The hotel, which is scheduled to open in
late 2010, is located in the buzzing central business district of
Xinyi. Gray joined Starwood in 1980. In 1985, Gray
was assigned to the Sheraton Okinawa and promoted just two years
later to general manager, becoming the youngest general manager in
the company. Gray has served as general manager for a long list of
luxury hotels, including St. Regis Beijing, St. Regis Shanghai,
The Westin Tokyo, Kobe Bay Sheraton Hotel & Towers, Sheraton
Okinawa, Sheraton Grande Laguna Beach at Phuket, Thailand, and -
simultaneously - Australia’s Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast and
Sheraton Port Douglas. Born in Hawaii, Gray’s long career in
hospitality has taken him around the globe, including positions in
the U. S., Japan, Australia and China. His passion for hotels can
be traced to the Gray family beachside hotel, “Gray’s by the Sea”,
and his high-school years working at various well-known
restaurants on the mainland. Although he took a slight detour from
hospitality to study architecture in New York, he veered back and
transferred to California State Polytechnic University to major in
hotel and restaurant management. “I’m honored to be entrusted with the management
of this wonderful new W hotel,” said Gray. “W Taipei will serve as
the ultimate city getaway, where a veritable ‘urban beach’ flirts
with the senses at every touchpoint. Located in one of Asia’s most
cosmopolitan cities, W Taipei will become one of the coolest
destinations in the world for global jetsetters, and I am looking
forward to introducing the signature W contemporary lifestyle
experience to Taiwan.” Rising 31 floors, W Taipei will offer guests a panoramic vista of the bustling Xinyi
district. Designed by London-based G.A. Design International Ltd,
W Taipei’s 405 guestrooms and suites are among the largest of
Taipei’s luxury hotels. See other recent news regarding:
