LAN Airlines Increases Flights to Lima, Peru

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Videos Wednesday, 7 October 2009

The recent discovery of the 1700 year old “Super Mummy” La Senora de Cao – the first known governess of Peru – has helped increase focus on the country, already famous for the ancient Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. And, as Peru’s popularity continues to grow with international tourists, LAN Airlines is responding with more flights to the capital city, Lima.

“South America is continuing to achieve steady growth in visitor numbers, despite the global economic climate, and Peru is one of the major contributors,” said Rodrigo Contreras, General Manager Australia, New Zealand and Asia for LAN Airlines. “As part of our campaign to continue building visitor numbers to Peru, we have recently increased flights to the capital city, Lima, and will be a major sponsor of a marketing roadshow in Australia later this month by the Peruvian tourist office, PromPeru.”

In addition to the popular attraction of Machu Picchu, a major focus of the PromPeru campaign will be the opening near the city of Trujillo of the Cao Museum, which features the super mummy, her possessions and weaving and ceramics up to 5000 years old.

The LAN airline group has just increased services to Peru, with the latest schedule offering five daily flights to the capital, Lima, from Santiago, Chile – four nonstop and one via the business and tourism hub of Iquique in northern Chile. From neighbouring Argentina, LAN also offers three daily flights from the capital, Buenos Aires, to Lima, plus three weekly services from the regional city of Cordoba.

LAN Peru operates a fleet of Airbus A320 family aircraft to 14 destinations within Peru, while the LAN group offers flights to Lima from 15 international destinations within South America, the USA and Europe.

From Australia, LAN operates daily one stop flights to Santiago, with onward services to Lima. LAN’s roundtrip fares, including taxes, from Australia to Peru start at $1639 in Economy Class or $6789 in Premium Business Class. Fares are also available from other Australian capital cities.

The destinations of Peru can also be included in LAN’s popular South America Airpass, or in round the world itineraries offered by LAN, a member of the global oneworld airline alliance.
