Audi Australia has joined forces with car rental company Europcar, to promote fuel efficient motoring with a new supply agreement for 150 of Audi’s fuel-sipping A3 1.9 TDI e models.

Audi's e-models – first launched last year in Australia with the Audi A3 1.9 TDI e. The ‘e’ stands for ‘efficiency’ and is reserved for a range of new Audi cars tuned specifically to cut consumption and at the same time deliver engaging dynamic performance via a range of hi-tech engineering refinements.

Europcar's new Audi A3 Sportback 1.9 TDI e models boast an average fuel consumption of just 4.5-litres per 100km – hybrid-beating performance from a premium carmaker.

On average, Europcar, which has office locations including major airports around the country, achieves around 950 Audi rentals a month. The company now also features LCD plasma screens at their outlets, showcasing Audi’s fuel-efficient products. The new Audi A3 Sportback is available from A$59 per day from Europcar outlets in all major Australian cities.

Audi Australia’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, said the partnership was a positive step forward to promote more efficient motoring in the rental business.

“Audi has a long history of reducing vehicle consumption without sacrificing performance from its sporty product line up. This partnership with Europcar is an excellent way for customers to test one of the most fuel efficient models on the road in Australia, without foregoing the experience of a premium rental car product,” Mr Hofmann said.

“We firmly believe that diesel technology is the right solution for efficient motoring in Australia, today, and as a result we offer some 20 models with consumption of seven litres per 100km or less – more than any other manufacturer. The A3 1.9 TDI e is our most-efficient model and even achieved a record low of just 3.3 litres per 100km in the 2007 World Solar Challenge event across Australia.”

Managing Director for Europcar’s Australian and New Zealand operations, Ron Santiago said, “The fact that these vehicles are considered to be one of the industry’s most fuel efficient cars also supports Europcar’s active promotion of eco-motoring. We believe that while customers still consider performance and price important, they have become more environmentally conscious, which has created an increased demand for more environmentally friendly and fuel efficient car hire options.”
