Wine Spectator, one of America’s foremost wine publications, has named Cèpe, a contemporary Italian restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street, as the sole recipient of the 2008 Best of Award of Excellence in Beijing.

The award gives special recognition to restaurants whose wine lists offer 400 or more selections, along with superior presentation that exhibit vintage depth as well as an excellent breadth of major wine-growing regions.

Commenting on the award, Derek Flint, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton Beijing, Financial Street, said, “We are thrilled to have received this honour. With ever-increasing dining options in Beijing and with the city playing host to thousands of visitors from all over the world enjoying the Olympic Games, Cepe truly stands out as a world-class restaurant with a world class-wine list – one any visitor to the city would be delighted to experience.”

“To be the only hotel in Beijing to receive this accolade pays tribute to our ladies and gentlemen who have worked diligently to create one of the most outstanding wine lists in the world. We are truly excited that Cèpe is fast becoming recognised as Beijing’s finest restaurant for offering excellent Italian food coupled with an outstanding wine list.”

Created by Wine Director, Lorenzo Maraviglia, the wine list at Cèpe features more than 484 wines filled with unique varietals, the very best new world producers and classic old world selections with a particular emphasis on the Northern Italian region that the restaurant celebrates.

The extensive wine list complements and is paired with Chef de Cuisine Eugenio Iraci’s style of cooking and the unique use of premium mushrooms stored in their own humidor to keep them fresh and in perfect condition.

The 70-seat restaurant also features ‘porcino,’ a private dining room for 10, and ‘bottega,’ an intimate wine lounge. Taking center stage in Cèpe are one thousand uniquely designed mushroom sculptures made of resin with silver paint suspended from the ceiling.

Cèpe is open daily for lunch between 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and dinner 6:00 - 10:30 p.m..
