Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Friday, 5 September 2008

easyJet is to launch daily flights between London Gatwick and Istanbul. The new route will launch on 12 December 2008, with fares from £35.99 one way (£58.98 return) including tax.

This new route to Istanbul brings easyJet’s total number of routes from Gatwick to 51 this winter and the airline expects over 100,000 passengers to travel on the new service in the first 12 months. This is the fifth new route to be added to the airline’s Gatwick base this winter.

David Osborne, UK General Manager, said, "easyJet has seen a huge increase in flights to ski and sun destinations this year, reinforcing easyJet’s position as the favourite airline for independent travellers, providing convenient low-cost flights from your local airport. The new route to Istanbul from London Gatwick will bring the choice of routes from the airline’s largest base up to 51."

Istanbul is the only city in the world that embraces two continents - Europe and Asia - and is a spellbinding combination of past and present. Once the capital of three successive empires - the East Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman - the city has unique historical and cultural traditions with a captivating array of attractions including bazaars, palaces, sights of natural beauty and the world-famous Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.
