United Airlines and Jet Airways
are to launch codeshare services, significantly expanding the number of flights available to customers of
both carriers to travel between the U.S. and India.
United's Mileage Plus and Jet Airways’ JetPrivilege members would also
be able to accrue and redeem frequent flyer miles on most flights.
"Whether our customers are traveling east or west, our new partnership with Jet Airways will provide 18 more flight options that will make
international travel more convenient," said Michael Whitaker, United's senior vice president – Alliances, International and Regulatory
Affairs. "Our business travelers will particularly enjoy service to one of the fastest growing regions and business markets in the world.”
The carriers
have already filed the codeshare agreement with the Department of Transportation, and, pending government approval, it is expected
to begin around November 1.
United customers will have service to 13 cities in India, including Bangalore, Kolkatta, Mumbai, and New Delhi.
Jet Airways customers may travel to United’s five hubs, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington, as well as more
than 20 other cities across the United States.
