Como Shambhala to launch Purify Skincare Facials

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Tuesday, 12 August 2008

Purify, a complete skincare range developed, produced and soon to be sold by Como Shambhala, makes its debut this autumn in custom facials to be launched at the Metropolitan, London. This is in addition to further Como Shambhala Retreats and Urban Escapes at Como Hotels and Resorts worldwide, including Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos.

The range of facials is suitable for most skin types, male and female. They include the signature 75-minute long Purify Holistic Facial (£180). This facial detoxifies and stimulates the skin through a synergy of Purifying skin preparations, lymphatic massage and Asian-inspired therapeutic techniques. The experience includes infused warm compresses, which cleanse, tone and exfoliate followed by a Purify facial massage, detoxifying herbal bolus massage, and a double mask application.

The Como Shambhala Ritual (£300) is a holistic experience for mind, body and face. Lasting an indulgent two hours, this spoiling treatment includes the Como Shambhala massage utilising long, soothing strokes, a herbal bolus treatment for the back, and the Purify Holistic Facial.

Purify For Men (£150) is a specific treatment designed for men. It incorporates an effective back treatment, cleanse, exfoliation, massage and mask followed by an express facial and finishes with a scalp massage.

True to Como Shambhala’s founding principles, the products use botanicals and natural ingredients. Purify skincare does not feature colouring, artificial fragrances, petroleum or petroleum spirits, colour, parabens (preservatives widely used in cosmetics) or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate.

The botanicals have properties that help soften, hydrate and repair, rebalancing oily and combination skins where necessary. The Purify blend is a mood elevating and refreshing combination of grapefruit, fennel, cypress and lime pure essential oils. All products are created with a specific purpose in mind, and have developed out of Como Shambhala’s facial treatments.

Other key ingredients are rich in antioxidants that can help fight the ageing effects of free radicals. They include rose hip oil, peach kernel oil, Aloe leaf, yeast extracts, carrot and spinach. Moisturising extracts include a wild orchid that grows in Bhutan. The flower’s natural sugars and polysaccharides help seal in water. Mannan, an ingredient used in Japanese cooking, possesses a unique relationship with water to keep the skin hydrated. Cucumber is both hydrating and gently astringent. Essential fatty acids are introduced with borage, which contains the highest known concentration of gamma-linolenic acids, considered important for firming.

Marine extracts such as Algae are featured as well as natural kaolin clay. Finely milled bamboo extract is used in Purify’s exfoliating product. Hibiscus Sabdariffa Extract, a flower acid, mimics the properties of AHAs (AHAs are used in cosmeceutical skincare to enhance cell renewal).
