Hertz Australia expands Kangaroo Island Operations

Travel News Asia Latest Travel News Podcasts Monday, 1 December 2008

Hertz is expanding its operations on South Australia’s Kangaroo Island, to accommodate strong growth in both domestic and international visitor numbers. The company will increase its fleet numbers on the island by approximately 33% for the upcoming holiday season.

Hertz will also add new vehicle types to the Kangaroo Island rental fleet, ensuring that customers have access to cars ranging from zippy hatchbacks to Ford Territory AWDs.

Kangaroo Island is one of Australia’s finest eco-tourism destinations, with a large population of wildlife including kangaroos and wallabies, koalas, echidna, platypi, goannas, seals, sea lions and penguins.

More than one third of the island has been preserved as national park or conservation area, making the destination a major eco-attraction not only for domestic visitors but for a growing number of tourists from overseas.

“Kangaroo Island is a large and diverse destination, seven times the size of Singapore,” said Geoff Christiansen, Hertz Manager, Kangaroo Island. “The best way to explore the island is by road, and we are expanding our fleet to ensure that we can accommodate the increasing number of tourist arrivals, year round.”

Hertz has three locations on Kangaroo Island – Kingscote Airport, Kingscote town centre and Penneshaw Wharf. It also operates from more than 220 locations throughout Australia.
