Assortment of Things to do in South Australia

Travel News Asia Tuesday, 31 July 2007

If you are planning to visit South Australia, here is a selection of just a few of the many fun and exciting things to see and do while there:

Mount Gambier Five-Day Cruising: Spend five days touring in and around Mount Gambier in the Limestone Coast for an experience youll never forget as Mount Gambier is home to the world famous Blue Lake. You can opt for a self-drive tour or get into a 4WD with Just Cruisin 4WD Tours and take a trip to see the Blue Lake in the crater of an extinct volcano. The company offers a variety of packages includes travelling via the Coonawarra wine region in the Limestone Coast where you can sample local wines en route and visit the Naracoorte Caves World Heritage area.

Hear the strumming of world guitarists: If you are visiting Adelaide from 23 November to 2 December 2007, check out the Adelaide Guitar Festival. This festival is the first ever for South Australia and celebrates world-class musicians of all music genres (Blues, Jazz, classical, Experimental, Blues & Roots, World, and more). Presented and produced by the Adelaide Festival Centre with support from the South Australia Government and South Australia Tourism, the Adelaide International Guitar Festival is an important new music festival that many hope will become an annual event not to be missed.

Shipwreck Diving: There are more than 700 shipwrecks dotting South Australia's coastline to keep you busy during your scuba diving trips there. Most ships were lost in catastrophic circumstances by being driven ashore, smashed on reefs or foundering at sea, while others ships were simply abandoned. Shipwreck diving is a popular sport in South Australia and the shipwrecks lie in varying conditions from rugged coastlines and great depths to calm bays and shallow waters. They form impressive dive sites composed of mini-reef systems, rich in colourful marine life.

All Aboard The Ghan!: Travel on The Ghan, a 70-years old legendary train and discover one of the most fascinating train journeys in Australia. Connections are available on the Indian Pacific and The Overland for guests travelling to or from Sydney and Melbourne. Marvel at the spectacular South Australian landscapes from fertile countryside surrounding Adelaide before heading to Darwin.

Gourmet Cycling Trails: Heres a tour company that specialises in various cycling excursions that combines visits to food, wine and produce trails. From one day to extended trips, Ecotrek will guide gourmet cyclists to various South Australian regions from Adelaide Hills to the Barossa for a delightful gastronomic adventure. The cycling distances are not huge each day (average around 25 km), with a back up vehicle to provide for rest periods from cycling if required. There are only short cycling distances between stop offs at wineries, restaurants and attractions, allowing plenty of rest time.

Extraordinary Golfing: Sign up with Mobile Golf Lessons to improve your golf game with a day on the green in the company of your own personal coach. Before you set off, your energy levels will be boosted for the game ahead at the award-winning Tap Inn, with a cooked breakfast and a warm up hit at the hotels indoor driving range. Youll then be chauffeured to one of the prestigious golf courses close to Adelaide, for a round of golf under the expert eye of your AAA-accredited professional coach. Then its back to the Tap Inn for a follow up assessment of your golf game over some delicious tapas and drinks.
