Hilton Hotels has appointed Markus Kraus as General
Manager of the Hilton Ulaanbaatar. Set in the heart of Mongolia’s capital,
the Hilton Ulaanbaatar is scheduled to open in the second half of 2008.
Commenting on the appointment, Tim Soper, Vice President – Operations, Greater
China and Mongolia, said, “Markus has a fantastic track record across all aspects of
hotel operations across diverse regions, having managed Hilton hotels in the United
Arab Emirates, Guam and Beijing ..... Given his experience, we are confident
that Markus is the ideal person to lead this landmark development that will showcase a
rejuvenated image of Hilton in Asia.”
Mr Kraus joins the Hilton Ulaanbaatar from the Hilton Fujairah Resort in the United Arab
Emirates, which he managed for three and an half years. He has more than 17 years’
experience across a number of Hilton properties in the Middle East, Africa, Europe and
Asia, including Director of Operations & Deputy General Manager of Hilton Guam Resort
& Spa and Executive Assistant Manager & Deputy General Manager of Hilton Beijing.
A Swiss national, Mr Kraus has a Bachelor of Science degree in International Hospitality
Management from the Hotel School Lausanne (EHL) in Switzerland. He is married with
one daughter.
Owned by leading Mongolian real estate developer Star Estates, the Hilton
Ulaanbaatar is set to take the hospitality industry in Mongolia to new heights with its 240
spacious and luxuriously-appointed guestrooms and four cutting-edge restaurants and
bars. The hotel will also offer the full range of conference and banqueting facilities
including a 500-seater ballroom and four Hilton Meeting rooms. Hilton Ulaanbaatar is ideally situated in the central area of downtown Ulaanbaatar,
adjoined to Ulaanbaatar’s premier residential complex. The hotel is in close proximity to
government buildings and corporate offices, as well as key tourist attractions.
