Thailands Samed Resorts
group has turned 11 of its Le Vimarn resort cottages into contemporary villas
in a bid to attract more design-conscious travellers to Samed island.
The new 42-sqm villas feature extensive woodwork finishes in teak, Chinese silk-effect soft furnishings with lotus flower motifs,
and Asian terracotta stone icons in the recesses. A choice of subtle lighting levels allows guests to create different ambiences in
each room.
"Increasingly, guests look for designs that suggest the native tropical environment of their holiday destination," said
Bangkok-based interior designer Ms Natthanee Niamsap who conceived the interior design with partner Ms Pitchaya
Suphavanich.
"The idea was to create simple yet stylish interiors that sit in contrast to the riot of colours and shapes that are in the surrounding
gardens at Le Vimarn," Ms Natthanee added.
Prices for the 11 new rooms
are US$270 (9,700 baht) compared to US$300 (10,800 baht) for Le Vimarns four
honeymoon cottages, but less than the US$792 (28,500 baht) for its 126-sqm hillside luxury spa villa suite.
