Next
month, Hong Kong Express Airways is to launch flights between Hong Kong and the capital of mainland China’s Shaanxi province and
gateway to western China, Xian.
The new route - the airline’s first since it’s relaunch in late January this year
- will become the airline’s
sixth (others are: Chengdu, Chiang Mai, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Ningbo) in a network that encompasses business and leisure destinations throughout the
Chinese mainland, Greater China and South East Asia.
One of mainland China’s top 10 largest cities, Xian is known as ‘the gateway to The Silk Road’ - one of the most important trade routes in ancient
Chinese history. Today, Xian is the most developed city in the central western region of mainland China and is known as one of the country’s
centres of academic excellence, especially in the field of technology.
