Rydges Hotels and Resorts Expands to Gladstone, Queensland

Travel News Asia Monday, 11 June 2007

Rydges Hotels and Resorts, one of Australia’s best known accommodation groups, has added the Queensland industrial city of Gladstone to its national network of properties.

The 95-room hotel, previously known as the Quality Hotel Country Plaza Gladstone, has been rebranded as Rydges Gladstone, becoming the 28th property in the group’s expanding Australian portfolio.

The group has also introduced new senior management to the hotel, led by General Manager David Osbourne, who was previously Executive Assistant Manager at Rydges Capricorn Resort Yeppoon.

As the base for a range of major industrial plants, including the world’s largest alumina refinery, Australia’s biggest alumina smelter, Queensland’s largest power station and extensive regional coalfields, Gladstone attracts a large number of business travellers every weekday.

The city is also the main gateway to the Heron Island Resort, and a convenient access point to the Great Barrier Reef, providing the basis of a new drive by local tourism authorities to increase leisure visits.

Located in the central business district, just seven kilometres from Gladstone Airport, Rydges Gladstone is both the city’s largest hotel complex and its largest conference centre, and offers a comprehensive range of facilities for guests and meeting delegates.

The 4 star property has 72 Deluxe Rooms, 22 self-contained Executive Rooms and one two-bedroom apartment, with all rooms featuring individually-controlled air conditioning, internet access, remote control TV and video, and a mini bar plus tea and coffee facilities.

To cater to the business market, the hotel also offers 24 hour reception, room service, laundry service and currency exchange, while an outdoor swimming pool and poolside barbecue offer a venue to relax, or to host private functions.

For hotel guests or visitors, the Brass Palm Restaurant offers a large selection of a la carte dishes, specialising in fresh seafood. The hotel conference centre offers three conference rooms catering for up to 200 delegates.
