Richard Lyon appointed General Manager of JW Marriott Mumbai

Marriott International has appointed Richard Lyon as General Manager of the JW Marriott Mumbai.

Richard’s career with Marriott International spans more than 25 years. Prior to moving to Mumbai he was General Manager of the historic flagship Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel in London which was voted one of the top five business hotels in the prestigious Conde Nast Traveller Magazine (UK) in 2003.

Following a five year Management Operations Training Course with the Savoy Hotel Group in London and Paris, Richard joined Swiss International Hotels as director of sales and marketing in Riyadh in 1980. His career with Marriot began in 1981 as director of marketing at the Riyadh Marriott Hotel. Two years later he opened Marriott’s first UK property, London Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square, and positioned the brand in the marketplace. His next move was to Cairo in 1985 as director of marketing of the 1250 room Cairo Marriott Hotel – a position he held for 3 years before moving back to the London Marriott Hotel as Executive Assistant Manager. Two more Resident Manager assignments followed at the Charlotte Marriott City Center Hotel in the United States and the Warsaw Marriott Hotel in Poland before his first assignment as General Manager at the Amman Marriott Hotel in Jordan in 1993. Richard was General Manager at Budapest Marriott Hotel in Hungary and Warsaw Marriott Hotel in Poland before he returned to London to his most recent position at Renaissance Chancery Court.

Richard has won a number of awards during his tenure with Marriott, most recently, a Special Achievement award from Renaissance for Sales Leadership and General Manager of the Year, in 2004.

His hobbies include keeping fit, playing golf and traveling and he is a keen fan of all sports, in particular football and cricket.
