Shangri-La Hotels to use 'Essence of Shangri-La' scent in Lobbies

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 6 September 2006

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has introduced a signature “Essence of Shangri-La” scent in the lobbies of selected Shangri-La hotels and resorts in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates.

The scent is fresh and clean, subtly Asian, and is said to evoke sensations of serenity and calm. The delicate aroma, six months under development, was inspired by the concept of Shangri-La itself – the legendary land of exquisite harmony and beauty described in James Hilton’s 1933 novel Lost Horizon. The scent’s bottom notes of vanilla, sandal and musk are highlighted by top notes of light bergamot and tea spiced with ginger.

The safe, non-allergenic, water-based fragrance is gently dispersed by an atomization system which features anti-bacterial and anti-smoke benefits as well.

“We want all our guests to feel that they have arrived at a safe and comforting haven, as soon as they walk through our doors, and we will spare no detail to create that sensation,” said Symon Bridle, chief operating officer. “Essence of Shangri-La adds another sensory layer of welcome to all who enter and enhances the overall Shangri-La experience.”
