Abacus appoints Steven Ong as General Manager, Thailand

Abacus International has appointed Mr Steven Ong as General Manager, Thailand. Based in Bangkok, Mr Ong takes overall responsibility for Abacus’ Thailand operations.

Mr Ong has lived and worked in Thailand for 12 years and is fluent in the language. In his time in Thailand, Mr Ong has on numerous occasions been formally recognised for his skills in sales and corporate management. Additionally, over the years he has developed and maintained very good relationships with leading corporations and conglomerates, government offices as well as the Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Thailand.

Mr Ong aims to expand Abacus’ network of Abacus travel agents throughout Thailand and continue to add value to airlines and hotel suppliers by generating incremental demand through the travel agents network.

Mr Ong will be moving from his current role in the Abacus Air Content Associates where he gained invaluable experience and understanding of the GDS business in the IndoChina and Central Asia markets.

Prior to joining Abacus, Mr Ong started his career as a trained aircraft engineer with Singapore Airlines. After his posting to Thailand in 1994 for a career in sales, he was recognised for his high-quality work and was subsequently appointed to management positions such as CEO, Country Manager and Board of Director within three inter-linked companies – Singapore Computers System, the KPN Group, and the Singapore Technologies (ST) Group. 

Mr Ong will remain based in Thailand and will report to Mr Kenneth Low, Vice-President, South Asia Region, Abacus International.
