Travel News Asia Monday, 29 May 2006

Accor has opened two hotels  in China the Sofitel Galaxy Nanjing and Sofitel Zhongshan Golf & Resort.

The two distinct Sofitel hotels are located in two different areas of Nanjing’s expanding downtown and suburbs: Sofitel Galaxy Nanjing right in the heart of the city centre while Sofitel Zhongshan Golf & Resort is an easy 20-minute drive away.

Located in the city’s Zhongshan district, the 140-room Sofitel Zhongshan Golf & Resort Nanjing’s marquee attraction is the 27-hole Gary Player designed golf course and club house that surrounds the resort.

For non-golfers the resort offers a comprehensive range of other leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool, tennis court, fitness centre, day spa, beauty salon and Mahjong rooms.

The low-rise colonial style hotel features 114 deluxe rooms measuring 57 sqm, 12 executive rooms with 30 sqm balconies and 14 suites in three categories for top end clientele. All rooms and suites feature Sofitel’s cocoon like ‘MyBed’, large screen plasma TV and individual balconies with views of Zijin Mountain or the golf course.

The resort’s ballroom can accommodate 300 delegates for sit down banquets or meetings with eight private conference rooms of various sizes. Sofitel Zhongshang Golf Resort’s six food and beverage outlets include:

Zi Jin Court – creative Chinese cuisine combining Cantonese and local Huai Yang specialties
Le Pavilion – Asian and Western favourites both a la carte or laid out in buffets
Mezzeh – featuring Lebanese cuisine
La Veranda – live music, Cuban cigars and drinks of every description
Two Bars – Aqua pool side and Lobby Lounge

The Sofitel Galaxy Nanjing is part of the Galaxy International Plaza, with 279 rooms on the building’s 28th to 46th floors, located on Shanxi Road in Nanjing’s prime business and entertainment district.

On the hotel’s 46th floor a Club Sofitel Lounge allows guests to enjoy express check-in, complimentary breakfast and nightly cocktails. The hotel’s grand ballroom caters to up to 750 for cocktail receptions with 11 additional break out rooms available. This hotel also offers an indoor swimming pool, tennis court, fitness centre, day spa, beauty salon and Mahjong rooms.

Sofitel Galaxy has five food and beverage outlets:

Spectrum7 – all day dining featuring Asian and Western cuisine – either a la carte or buffets
Le Chinois – stylish Chinese food blending Cantonese with local flavours
Le Mistral – a French fine dining and wine experience with a Mediterranean flair

Les Café des Arts – Lobby Lounge

Nanjing had quickly emerged as a cosmopolitan city to rival its neighbour Shanghai, attracting over 400,000 international visitors in 2000. Overseas Chinese are particularly attached to Nanjing, especially Dr Sun Yat-Sen’s Mausoleum and the Qinhuali River Scenic Belt. It has an established trade and manufacturing base from foreign multi-national companies including Motorola, Philips, Fiat, Ericsson and an Iveco joint venture.
