Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2007 signs Broadcast Deal with TVB

Travel News Asia Friday, 24 November 2006

The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union (HKRFU) has signed a new 3-year host broadcast partnership with Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) for the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens starting in 2007.

The new partnership forges an important link between Hong Kong’s premier international sports event, the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens, and Hong Kong’s top television broadcaster, TVB, whose programmes achieve an average of over 75% of Hong Kong’s English-language prime time television audience share.

Trevor Gregory, Chairman of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union commented on the new broadcast partnership saying, “This is an exciting development for the event, and for rugby in Hong Kong, as it will bring the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens on free-to-air terrestrial television to 2.28 million homes in Hong Kong.”

K.W. Leung, TVB’s Marketing & Sales Controller, remarked that as the largest local terrestrial television broadcaster, TVB is proud to have the 3-year exclusive broadcast rights to bring the Hong Kong Sevens to the Hong Kong audience on free-to-air television.

Under the new broadcast arrangement, TVB will carry the Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2007 with both English and Cantonese commentary on TVB Pearl. A special highlights package will be aired on the evening of Friday 30 March 2007, whilst 4 hours of live coverage will be aired on Saturday 31 March and 5 1/2 hours of live coverage including the Cup, Plate and Bowl finals will be shown on Sunday 1 April 2007. TVB has also agreed to broadcast the highlight packages from the IRB World Sevens Series 2006/2007 tournaments.

The Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Hong Kong Sevens 2007 will be held at the Hong Kong Stadium from March 30 to 1 April, 2007.
