IHG completes multi-million dollar refurbishment and re-branding of Parkroyal Queenstown to Crowne Plaza Queenstown

Travel News Asia 23 February 2006

InterContinental Hotels Group has successfully completed a multi-million dollar refurbishment and re-branding of the Parkroyal Queenstown to the Crowne Plaza Queenstown.

A magical sunset in Queenstown

The hotel is located in the heart of town on the shores of Lake Wakatipu and with spectacular mountain views.

“This refurbishment has resulted in a stunning Crowne Plaza hotel that is the perfect complement to its location. Our joint venture with The Carter Group to invest in this hotel has created one of the country’s best hotel products in a sensational destination that rivals anywhere I’ve been for natural beauty all year round,” said InterContinental Hotels Group Chief Operating Officer Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific, Phil Lee.

The meeting areas at Crowne Plaza Queenstown have all been completely transformed and extended. In addition to technical enhancements, including the introduction of wireless capabilities in all meeting areas, the hotel now offers the full range of Crowne Plaza Meeting Success products and services catering specifically to the needs of meeting planners, delegates and facilitators.

Meetings at Crowne Plaza Queenstown will be made easier with a dedicated Crowne Meetings Director, a Two Hour Response time to all meeting enquiries and innovative approaches to meetings, including food and beverage options such as Lunching In, Meet and Eat and Snack Attack.

All 139 of the Crowne Plaza Queenstown's guest rooms have been completely refurbished, and now feature all-new Crowne Plaza signature furnishings and amenities including a range of Red Earth bathroom products, a selection of Husk Herbal Tea Blends and LCD TV screens in every room. This is in addition to popular Crowne Plaza initiatives such as Bedside Shopping – a selection of carefully chosen items to anticipate and meet both the business and personal needs of guests 24 hours a day – and the Body and Soul in-room dining concept, developed in conjunction with leading nutritionists to offer healthier restaurant-quality alternatives to those wanting to stay in shape whilst on the road.

The Crowne Plaza Queenstown lake frontage has also been extended to house its new signature restaurant, ThreeSixty. Under the direction of new Executive Chef, Glen Cooper – three-time winner of the New Zealand Restaurant of the Year Award (while chef at Chameleon restaurant at InterContinental Wellington) – ThreeSixty will draw on the best of New Zealand’s natural produce to bring a new Asian fusion dining experience to Queenstown.

The hotel’s public areas have also been redeveloped, with the addition of an impressive bar area, martini lounge and ski bar.
