Family Fun at the DSS Summer Family Fiesta

Travel News Asia Monday, 21 August 2006

Families from across the Middle East are being drawn to Dubai by the first-ever DSS Summer Family Fiesta, a five-day extravaganza organised by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) in association with Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS).

The event – which offers a range of activities including games, competitions, food and hobbies and craft – has become a major talking point for families looking to end their summer holiday on a high note and organisers are upbeat about the interest from visitors.

Running from 22-26 August at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), the Summer Family Fiesta combines three distinct events – the Summer Food Festival, the Recreation & Games Festival and the Hobbies & Crafts Festival.

“Our aim is to offer the right mix of ingredients to provide an exciting summer’s day out for families from all nations and children of all ages. The Fiesta is accessible to everybody and is held alongside the Modhesh Fun City, ensuring people will be spoilt for choice on the day,” said Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General, Dubai World Trade Centre.

Backed by a regional promotional campaign, the Fiesta is attracting interest across the GCC, as people look for a family-friendly break at one of Dubai’s best-known locations.

Each of the Festival events provides its own range of entertainment and attractions. The Summer Food Festival, for example, will host stalls serving a tantalising range of Emirati delicacies as well as sweets and confectionaries.

Among the highlights will be a live fruit and vegetable carving demonstration and the first-ever Barista Coffee Competition, supported by illy, designed to find the best cup of coffee in the UAE.

The Recreation & Games Festival is an ideal distraction for children, incorporating an Electronic Gaming Hub with the latest exciting computer action as well as a range of gripping sporting competitions including basketball, table tennis and soap soccer.

Children will also be able to try out fantastic amusement rides and games, along with specially-designed activities in a safe and entertaining environment.

For people looking for more artistic pursuits this summer, the Hobbies & Crafts Festival will showcase the diversity and creativity of Middle Eastern arts and crafts, providing a fascinating insight into pottery, painting and weaving.

Children’s City, Flying Elephant and Foton Edutainment will run workshops throughout the Fiesta for children of all age groups, to provide them with an introduction to the arts and uncover hidden talents in participants.

Damas, Wild Wadi, Grand Cinemas and Round Table Pizza are offering mega prizes for visitors, while daily raffles and prize draws see lucky families walk away with some fabulous prizes.

Entry to the event is AED 5 for adults and free for children below 14 years.
