Jetstar Asia launches Online Gift Vouchers

Travel News Asia 17 January 2006

Low cost airline, Jetstar Asia has launched a new gift voucher service. The gift vouchers can be purchased online and sent directly to anyone for a flight anywhere across the Jetstar Asia or Valuair network.

Through the gift voucher link on the airline's website, purchasing customers simply determine the value of the gift and then Jetstar Asia will send the recipient a gift voucher via email.

“Travel is no longer an expensive luxury and with people taking short hops for holidays, it just made sense to provide customers the ability to ‘gift’ a Jetstar Asia or Valuair flight to a loved one,” said Mr Neil Thompson, Jetstar Asia’s Acting CEO.

“It’s such a unique idea to give an airline ticket as a gift and we’ve seen with our sister airline, Jetstar Australia, a huge buzz created by how well people are receiving the vouchers. It’s definitely a concept in gift giving that’s not been seen before,” Mr Thompson said.

The holder of the gift voucher can select any destination in the Jetstar Asia and Valuair network including holiday favourites such as Bangkok, Taipei, Hong Kong, Bali and Phuket. The holder proceeds through the booking system as if they were purchasing a ticket, and once they come to the payment option they use the voucher details to redeem the flight.

The vouchers are securely protected through separate voucher code, voucher numbers and an authentication code.

The gift vouchers are valid for 12 months after purchase and can be fully redeemed against the cost of a Jetstar Asia or Valuair ticket including any surcharges that apply. In an instance where the value of the voucher is lower than the price of the ticket, the flying passenger simply tops up the difference with a credit card.

Currently the vouchers are exclusively available to customers in Singapore and are in increments of Sin$50 or Sin$100.
