Craig Smith promoted to Area Vice President Asia for Marriott International

Marriott International recently appointed Mr. Craig S. Smith to Vice President Asia.

In his new position, Craig is responsible for 18 properties in Thailand, Singapore, India, Indonesia and Pakistan with a further 7 properties under development scheduled to open in 2006 and 2007. In the new position Craig will be based in Hong Kong.

Craig was formerly General Manager of JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa is a truly seasoned professional, having spent the majority of his working life (from 1988) with Marriott International. JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa was his fifth assignment as a General Manager with Marriott International. Previously he served as General Manager of JW Marriott Hotel and Stellaris Casino in Lima, Peru. His broad experience also includes assignments in Brazil, the Dominican Republic, the US Virgin Islands, El Salvador, Mexico and California. 

He has a strong background in the rooms division side of the hotel business and worked as a Resident Manager before his first assignment as  General Manager. He has won fifteen awards since 1998 for excellence in several categories including leadership, operations, finance, associate satisfaction, and customer service. Craig has managed three different properties which have been awarded the coveted Hotel of the Year. He has also been named the General Manager of the Year twice; for both Marriott and Renaissance International.

As the son of an US Ambassador/Diplomat he spent most of his childhood traveling the world. This has rolled over into his personal and professional life as he continues his globetrotting experiences in South and South East Asia.
