Qatar Airways steps up Frequency to Shanghai

Travel News Asia 1 February 2006

Qatar Airways has stepped up frequency on its highly-popular Doha – Shanghai route with the introduction of a fourth weekly scheduled flight.

Shanghai

The extra flight operates to Shanghai every Thursday night from Doha, returning to the Qatari capital early Saturday morning.

The Doha – Shanghai flights operate non-stop using an Airbus A330-200 in a two-class configuration of Economy and Business Class. Passengers are able to benefit from the airline’s award-winning Five Star service and a fully interactive inflight entertainment system in both classes.

Strong business links between the Middle East and China – both the capital Beijing and commercial centre of Shanghai – have prompted Qatar Airways to make the increase in capacity.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said the Shanghai route had performed exceptionally well since its launch two years ago.

“Everyone is familiar with the importance of the Chinese market as the economy is growing at a phenomenal rate,” he said.

“Economic indicators clearly show that China is on a steep growth curve and travel, both inbound and outbound, is rising at an incredible rate. Like any commercial organisation, Qatar Airways wants to be part of the China success story, and are pleased to be able to offer the travelling public a wider range of flying opportunities to and from China.”

Qatar Airways is also set to launch new daily Hong Kong flights on March 26. With the new flights Qatar Airways will operate a total of 15 scheduled flights a week between Doha and Greater China – four each to Beijing and Shanghai, and the new daily Hong Kong service.
