Asian Overland Services launches New Overseas Travel Programme

Travel News Asia Friday, 11 August 2006

Asian Overland Services Tours and Travel (AOS), one of Malaysia’s leading inbound travel operators, has made a major departure from its existing business in launching an outbound division focused on a new and exciting range of exotic travel programmes for adventurous Malaysian travellers.

Group Managing Director for AOS, Mr. Anthony Wong, commented on the move saying, “It makes good sense that we should move on from being a major player in the inbound business to catering to the travel needs of those Malaysians who want to venture overseas especially to new destinations that are not served by the mainstream outbound travel operators in the country. Over the past 30 years or so we have developed an excellent worldwide network of travel operators who we have been working with to bring travellers into the country. Many of these also offer an extensive internal network within their own country so we are now just tapping into that to offer these travel destinations to adventurous Malaysians.”

Mr. Wong continued, “We have made a conscious decision to choose those niche destinations and products that we think are under-represented by other outbound travel companies. This means we are not really competing with them but complimenting them in offering a more extensive range of destinations to travelling Malaysians. Some of the places we have chosen support AOS’s policy of encouraging responsible tourism in natural areas. Christmas Island and Himalayan India are very exciting destinations that we think will appeal to those Malaysians who appreciate natural and the scenic beauty of relatively undisturbed areas.”

The General Manager for AOS (Outbound), Mrs. Latifah Tamerlane is equally excited about the range of destinations and products. She said, “India has always been a popular destination for holidaying Malaysians and while we offer well-known destinations like India’s Golden Triangle we are also offering destinations that are off the beaten track like Shimla, Kullu and Manali nestled in the Himalayas in Himachal Pradesh. The snow-covered peaks, mountains, deep gorges, lush green valleys, meadows and fast-flowing streams are a paradise for those travellers looking for new and remote places to visit. We use very experienced local operators who know the district and how best to offer the best value-for-money holiday to Malaysians.”

Mrs. Tamerlane added that, “Cruising is becoming increasingly popular with certain groups of Malaysians. Many retired people see cruising as a relaxed and luxurious way to explore the world. We have partnered with Silversea Cruises as they offer a comprehensive range of worldwide cruises using the best boats in the business. One of the highlights of their cruising programme is a 126-day world cruise where it’s possible to join the ship for various sectors of interest to the individual. They have vessels in all the world’s major cruising destinations and offer uncompromising service for discerning travellers.”

Representatives from the Trans Siberian Railway, Christmas Island (Austasia Airlines), India Snowland Holidays (Himalayan India) and Silversea Cruises made presentations to the media, the Malaysian travel trade and will also be available to handle enquiries from the public at a free travel forum to be held in the AOS offices on Saturday, August 12 at 2pm.
