Six Senses Spa creates a celebration of traditional ambience and atmosphere at Sharq Village & Spa – Doha

Travel News Asia Wednesday, 10 May 2006

Six Senses Spas is creating a unique experience at Sharq Village & Spa, due to open in Doha, in late 2006. The 6,500 square metre or 70,000 square feet spa is located as a centerpiece of the 174 guestroom and suite waterfront property.

The design of the Six Senses Spa reflects a traditional Qatari souq or bazaar, giving the impression of a true Middle Eastern village that has grown organically over time. It is made up of winding village streets rather than corridors, with the twenty-three treatment rooms resembling typical village houses.

Spa facilities featured in the main areas include saunas, steam rooms, Jacuzzis, plunge pools, changing rooms, fully equipped fitness clubs and dedicated areas for yoga, meditation, tai chi and other eastern practices, as well as relaxation rooms and prayer rooms. Facilities for both gentlemen and ladies are dedicated private. Ladies are also offered a private entrance and reception as well as a club facility with several majlis areas and a professional salon for hair, nail, beauty and henna treatments.

The Six Senses Spa offers all the traditional treatments such as Swedish, Thai, Balinese and aroma massages, plus pampering treatments. More specialized treatments will include crystal therapy, mud baths, body scrubs and polishes, typical private hamam experiences and lessons in eastern meditation and exercise traditions.

The design of Sharq Resort & Spa, managed by The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, will be unique in the Middle East for its authentic recreation of life in an ancient Bedouin desert village. Visitors exploring its streets and lanes will be transported in time to an era when Bedouin traders and craftsmen shaped their own lifestyle and traditions. Roaming entertainers playing Arabian music, performing colourful folk dances, creating intricate weaving, and reciting inspirational poetry will add flavor to the guest experience and memories. Fishermen and pearl divers will display the skills of their ancestors along the expansive village’s beachfront.
