HRH Prince Andrew, the Duke of York,
made an official visit to Phuket, Monday, to thank the Thai people and local British community for their assistance to British citizens in the aftermath of the 26 December tsunami. Earlier that day the Prince met with His
Majesty King Bhumibal Adulyadej of Thailand at the Royal Palace in Hua
Hin.
During his one day tour of
Phuket today, the Prince, younger brother of Prince Charles, heir to the throne of England, made a number of public visits,
beginning with a stop at the Bangkok Phuket Hospital to meet staff who assisted tsunami victims. After which he met British Embassy office staff for a private lunch.
During the afternoon the Prince visited Nai Yang Beach located near the Phuket International Airport to inspect boats donated by the Royal Thames Yacht Club and met
members of the local fishing community. Afterwards Prince Andrew visited the Thai Tsunami Victim Identification centre further north in Mai Khao where he met with
British, Thai and other international Disaster Victim Identification teams and laid a wreath at the Wall of Remembrance for tsunami victims.
HRH Prince Andrew concluded his visit to Phuket with a cocktail reception attended by 180 guests hosted by the British Ambassador, Mr David Fall at Laguna Beach
Resort. During which the Prince personally conveyed the deep-felt gratitude of Britains Royal Family towards the Thai people and British community in Phuket.
